Meet the founder

Hey there, lovely readers!

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes?

Well, I'm thrilled to announce that I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with the founder of our community (yep, that's me!).

Listen to our playlist while you read. HERE!

Alright, let's kick things off!

Q: What inspired you to start this community in the first place?

A: I didn't want to feel guilty every time I bought something. The best thing to do is to buy local products but I didn't know where to find them, nor what options I had. Nearbyeco is what I wish I had found at the time, this was seven years ago.

Q: Seven years ago?

A: Yes. I tried many things, and this is the second website I built. But I focused on finding sustainable products for the hospitality industry like straws, to-go boxes, etc. I learned a lot. Years went by and I didn't continue, although it was always in my head. And now I finally have the time and energy to do it.

Q: What have been the most rewarding and challenging moments on this journey of building Nearbyeco?

A: The challenges are in my head. There is the mania that you have to make money with everything. Make money out of everything. In the end, I decided to do this until the end without thinking about making money, I  do invest a lot of time in Nearbyeco. And I do it because the best thing is that every time I discover a company, I get the chills and I feel proud. So many people believe that things can be done right and they do it. And when you buy those sneakers or that pen, I finally don't feel guilty. That's the goal!

Q: So, what's next on the horizon for Nearbyeco? Any exciting plans we should be on the lookout for?

A: I'll keep searching for brands that inspire me and we'll see what happens. I also think that Taula Natural, another project I created to be able to focus more on food, is very interesting and excites me. It opens doors to talk and create conversation about topics like why in the supermarket I can find more junk food than real food. And I'm talking about, for example, cheese, coffee, sodas, tasteless fruits, pretty much everything on the shelves is not nutritious. I have the right to eat healthy and not be cheated every second.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to someone who's just starting their journey towards a greener lifestyle, what would it be?

A: I think it depends on your circumstances. But I think small changes reinforce the next ones. So start with what you are most excited about or what is most available. And then continue from there. We want everything to be fast and easy and changes bother us. It's not easy, that's why Nearbyeco is there, to find an opportunity for change. Instead of an Inditex t-shirt, get one made in your country and for the same price. It's a revolutionary act!
